Law and Government was the focus for Leadership class held on Thursday, November 10th. We started the morning at the Chubbuck city offices with amazing pastries, coffee, and juice from Panera Bread. Mario was the lead facilitator training on purpose. As leaders we all know it takes purpose from all of us to help drive our government. It was a very ironic discussion the first day after the elections.
Mayor England gave a great speech about us all taking part in our community. He reminded us we should always question government by asking, why? We laughed about some of the funny laws that have been passed.
Next we had Lt. Jean Higgins from Chubbuck PD. Talk to us about the different drugs they are seeing in Pocatello. Many of us were shocked that in such a small community so many drugs exist. Sure appreciate all the hard work our police do to enforce the laws and keep our community safe.
Sgt. Ashby arranged a tour for us at the Women’s Correction Center. Most of us had never been out to the prison and we were stunned to see how big it was and that it is always at full capacity.
Texas Roadhouse opened up for us to all have an amazing lunch. Their staff and food were incredible.
Rachel Miller, attorney from Racine and Olsen and leadership class 2015-2017 member set up a very informative meeting at the courthouse with Three district Judges, a prosecutor and a defense attorney. They all talked about what they are doing in our community and what they see on a day to day basis. They were Judge Naftz, Judge Nye, Judge Dunn, Attorney Steve Herzog, and Public defender David Martinez.
The day was very informative for us all. The next leadership class day will be Dec. 10th about human services.
