Chamber Business by Jennifer Erchul, Chair of the Board of Directors

As I’ve been involved with the Pocatello Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce for several years, I’ve watched our business climate sway with the times, not always following national trends but setting our own. I attribute much of it to our community’s support and communications.

Today I’m excited to announce I see a big uptick on our business climate-it is getting HOT! We’ve got new industry looking to come in, have several new food trucks and some new retail in downtown Pocatello and Chubbuck. Our community is supporting what we have and appears eager for more. And it’s not just the new businesses opening their doors, it’s so much more.

Bannock County is taking an opportunity this year and is hosting the Bannock County Independence Celebration July 3rd with a concert – Joe Nichols with Trent Tomlinson – at the Portneuf Health Trust Amphitheatre, along with a fantastic July 4th day at the Portneuf Wellness Complex. Our county officials believe that we, as a region, as a community, can support concerts at the Amphitheatre, and we need to show them we can! The more tickets sold, the fuller the venue, the better opportunity we have for bringing in more shows of high caliper.

This goes for all the events our community hosts. We need to attend, enjoy and appreciate the opportunities that arise, whether it’s a national wrestling tournament at the MEC (Mountain View Event Center) or Revive at 5 in downtown Pocatello, Movies in the Park in Chubbuck or charity golf tournaments. I’ve heard, for as long as I’ve lived here-both times-, that there’s never anything to do here, that nothing ever happens here, that Pocatello Chubbuck is so boring.  I still can’t figure out how or why anyone can firmly believe there’s nothing going on here. We just got through PRIDE week, the Wildflower Festival at our local ski hill, and have these events to enjoy:

Revive at 5 downtown every Wednesday evening

Concerts on the Quad at ISU every Thursday evening

A lively farmers market downtown every Saturday

Astronomical Idaho Exhibit May 25 – Jul 12 · Idaho Museum of Natural History

Youth Camps for all interests all summer through various organizations

Camping, hiking, climbing, mountain biking throughout our region YEAR ROUND

Pocatello Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce Open Houses, Ribbon Cuttings and Business After Hours YEAR ROUND

Live theater at several different theaters

Live music at various venues

So much more!!!!

I feel fortunate that a community of our size has so many interesting, evolving events and opportunities for us to enjoy and celebrate. I challenge each of you to attend an activity you haven’t before, invite your friends and family to join you. Together, if we continue to show up and support, not only will our calendars be full, but our business climate will continue to improve. It’s easy to do your part-Become a supporter of you community today, as it will absolutely affect your community tomorrow.
